I’m taking a quick break from the usual email topics today to share a little behind-the-scenes look at our family’s Halloween traditions. It’s changed over the years, but we’ve always carved pumpkins.

Here are the ones we did this year – we usually have much larger pumpkins, so it was a challenge to carve ones this small:

When our daughter was younger, my husband and I would do trunk-or-treats where we’d decorate our car, line up with other cars in a parking lot and hand out candy. She outgrew that in her teens and started going out with her friends, and my husband and I would hide in our family room with the lights off, watch movies (always The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and The Nightmare Before Christmas), and eat candy in the dark.

This year, our daughter is 18 and graduated from high school. She surprised us by saying she wanted to join our “Halloween movie night!” So, tonight, we’re cozying up together, watching movies, and eating candy. I love family memories, traditions, and our close relationship as a family.

Today, I want to wish you a Halloween filled with traditions, treats, and memories you’ll look back on and smile about.
