Okay, so I wasn’t completely off the grid. I was at a business retreat with a close-knit group of other solopreneurs – it was at a hotel, and we had electricity, phones, internet, etc. But we unplugged from client work for two full days to challenge our beliefs, think out of the box, and try on new ideas.
Here are three big insights that hit home for me:
- Commitment breeds momentum: A quote from W.H. Murray says, “Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back…” But once we’re fully in, resources, energy, and solutions start flowing. Often, the biggest obstacle is just giving that first, firm “Yes.”
- Rest is a responsibility: Not taking time to rest? That’s a leadership flaw. Our brain’s “default mode network” (a system of connected brain areas where real creativity happens) only kicks in when we’re off. Rest fuels innovation and clarity.
- Don’t be a self-milking cow: Doing everything yourself is like a cow trying to milk itself. Awkward and ineffective. We’re better off focusing on what we do best and delegating the rest.
To sum it all up, here’s my key takeaway: Lasting success isn’t about doing more. It’s about committing fully, resting smart, and knowing when to pass the baton.
Can you relate to any of these? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
